Our city is a culturally rich milieu on a regular basis but the beginning of 2010 will be particularly art-laden. Philadelphia will host several arts conference in the opening months of 2010. Within three months of each other, there will be a major international print festival Philagrafika2010 and an international print conference Southern Graphic Conference, a multiple fiber exhibition FiberPhiladelphia and a major convention of ceramic arts National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.
The art calendar starts on January 1 with an exhibit organized by Linda Dubin Garfield, printmaker and president of smART business consulting, who decided to organize a group show juxtaposing art work created using the diverse media of paper, fiber and clay which were going to be highlighted in different conferences and conventions in the next few months. She wanted to allow the artists to find their voices through the excitement inspired by their unique materials and processes as well as to interact with other artists in different media.
The exhibit features artists Linda Dubin Garfield, Mickie Rosen and Hinda Schuman presenting works on paper; fiber artists Susan Leonard, Kathryn Pannepacker and Elsa Wachs; and ceramic artists Lynne Berman, Carol Klein and Marci Selig Smoger. The uniqueness of this show is the opportunity to experience the harmonious presentation of art made from the diverse materials of paper, fiber and clay. It serves as an introduction to the forthcoming larger exhibits to follow.
Let’s take advantage of all the wonderful art exhibits, panel discussions, and special programs available in the next few months!!
