Deborah Curtiss
Unique
Not expecting to be an artist, I recently reached the 50th anniversary of first taking a brush to paint a painting. Educated at Antioch College, Yale University School of Art, and University of the Arts, I have devoted much of my life and work to creating art and educating vision.
When creating, I proceed as an explorer and a composer, using drawing and painting to discover visual metaphors for the complexities of life. While referencing recognizable forms and situations, these metaphors include evocations of inner and other realities of being human along with reflections upon our place on the earth and in the universe....
While I draw from nature (human figure, botanical forms, landscape & architecture), I create my paintings from the drawings (and most recently from collages as well), allowing transformations to occur integral to a searching process, not knowing where I'm going until I've arrived (or not!).
To share my fascination and love of visual learning, intelligence and creativity with others however I can.
