Photography Portfolio Reviews by Richard Johnson

Posted by Todd Hestand on February 28, 2010
General / No Comments

Take your photography to the next level. Find your strengths and weaknesses. Everyone has both!!! This year’s Photography Expo was the hardest ever to be juried in. Usually 40 to 50 photographers enter, this year there were 76. There were over 200 entries and only 50 photographs were accepted. Almost everyone who took the review last year was accepted into the exhibition. Ken Goodfellow our first place winner this year took the review and stated he followed Richard’s instructions to the letter.

Testimonial by Photographer Ken Goodfellow. Ken took the class March 29th, 2009

“It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Johnson on my portfolio review, never having one before it was well worth the time spent. The review of my images before meeting Richard was an added bonus since he already had an understanding of what I was presenting, and had completed written material for me to go over.

Richard’s communication of what should be worked on to present portfolios, besides discussing the images, was very detailed and knowledge worth learning. I would highly recommend a review as lessons learned for me from a technical and business perspective can be put into practice immediately”.

Photography Portfolio Reviews by Richard Johnson

Richard A. Johnson is a black and white landscape photographer who uses panoramic and large format cameras to capture the natural beauty of Eastern and Southwestern United States.

In the last twenty years, Richard has created twenty black & white portfolios, been involved in over 60 one person and group exhibitions, and has been featured in several prominent publications on photography such as Lenswork, Lenswork Extended Journal, Black and White Magazine UK and the Photographer’s Formulary Online Newsletter. Richard’s work is held in numerous private and public institutional collections throughout the country.

Richard A. Johnson was born and raised in the city of Philadelphia, and currently resides in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Mr. Johnson continues to teach various courses on traditional & digital photography at Delaware County Community College, where he has worked for over 15 years. He was awarded Excellence In Teaching in 2006. Richard’s recent accomplishments include being selected as an Artist in Residence by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and also by Pennsylvania Department of Education for a solo exhibition in 2008.

So Come to Tyme Gallery for a professional portfolio review with Richard Johnson. There is a limit of 8 people per session and 3 seats are already taken. The review is Sunday March 14th starting at 12:30 pm. The cost is only $30.00. Advance registration is a must and jpgs or slides of images to be reviewed must also be presented in advance. Light refreshments will be provided. Please call 610-853-1215 or email madametyme@tymegallery.com for registration or additional questions. Tyme Gallery is located at 17 W. Eagle Road in Havertown. Prints by national and international artists will be available at deep discounts to raise funds to benefit Brandywine’s capital campaign and gallery operations.

As part of the exhibition’s mission to promote printmaking and its potential as an expressive medium, “Print Out” will present a series of free children’s workshops and family days. Families are encouraged to introduce their children to the media of print though the exhibition and hands-on learning activities. Volunteer printmaking majors from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts will lead children (3-12 years of age) in relief printmaking. In addition to creating art to take home, examples of the children’s prints will be displayed at the gallery during “Print Out.” The experience of creating and exhibiting original prints in an established art gallery will be one to be enjoyed by the entire family. Each free session is limited to 6 children, and pre-registration by phone (215.546.32675) is required.

The following schedule of activities is planned:
