Welcome to Phillyside!
Phillyside Arts is our own community of working artists and those that actively support that art. This is not a hobby; this is something that you wanted. This will always be something that you want, because you set the standards. You get out of it exactly what you put into it and sometimes even more.
The point is, all snowflakes are the same. They’re all white and they all fall from the sky. If we weren’t around, then who would notice the snowflakes? What matters is what we do with them after they are here. Do we just watch? Do we play with them? Or do we build something out of them? We’re all snowflakes, we’re all the same, so are we going to just stand by and watch ourselves fall or are we going to go out have fun and build something out of ourselves.
Phillyside has already taken on a life of its own. It is a movement and a revolution. With every day with each new person we speak to, it gets more exciting. We are creating new things, bold things and unprecedented things that will set a standard and a boundary setting us apart from the old and building on something new. I can’t take credit, I can only congratulate my wonderful friends on all the hard work they have done leading up to this. Phillyside is breaking on a wave of endless possibilities and we will ride for as long as we feel that true inspiration. Step up, be brave, get stoked, and let’s make something happen.
We can have art’s fairs, film showings, contests, critiques, and whatever you need because it’s within our grasp. Everything that we need is within our collective resources. Whatever you don’t see here now, you will soon enough. I want to see people stop hurting and struggling and trying so hard. I want to see people with ambition succeed at what they do. In business terms it’s called maximizing your potential or return on investment. It’s hard to do that; you always have to compromise your integrity to get what you want. It’s easy to loose sight of your vision. What are you trying to say when your job drains every bit of your energy from you? You get paid so little and your debt or rent is so high. I want to see someone with passion follow through and create something that is bigger then they ever thought they could. I’m through with being paid for the right to live; it’s time to be paid for the ability to create. I say down with the office secretary, down with the high-class waiter, down with the retail managers and the print shop clerks. It is time to be paid for the ability to create.
You do not need to be a great artist; all you need is a single spark, a single idea. You never know where it could lead you if you don’t follow it. You can’t follow it unless you have the support to develop it. Phillyside is here to help develop that great idea, collectively and individually, we will make something great happen. Let’s show people how to create, rather then destroy or dominate.
There is no limit to talent, only the time and resources available to develop it.
I believe in people. I believe that everyone has some amount of good to be discovered in them. We all are artists with talents that should and can be shared. Given the opportunity we can all be heroes. No matter how many gifts or faults a person may have, they have one outstanding good and talent that rises above. I believe in you, the artist, the musician, the professional, the athlete, the poet, and no matter what happens or has happened, love, I believe in you.
Welcome to Phillyside.
